This reference architecture presents a comprehensive and scalable approach for protecting SAP HANA environments using Lenovo ThinkSystem infrastructure and the Veeam Data Platform. Designed to address the stringent recovery point and recovery time objectives of SAP HANA, the solution combines SAP-native backup integration via the Backint interface with Lenovo’s SAP-certified servers and enterprise storage systems.
The document outlines the overall solution architecture, key backup design considerations and best practices for ensuring application-consistent, high-performance and resilient backups. It provides detailed guidance on backup methods, storage-level redundancy, networking requirements, licensing and capacity-based sizing, along with bill of materials for the backup solution tailored to small, medium and large SAP HANA deployments, regardless of scale-up or scale-out configuration.
The goal of this reference architecture is to enable organizations to design and deploy a robust, efficient and future-proof backup solution that meets performance, compliance and operational requirements for mission-critical SAP HANA workloads.
